The disease is caused by the bite of a mite and mimics the symptoms of dengue or viral fever, but is much more fatal. It has been raging in Himachal Pradesh this season, with more than 500 confirmed cases and six deaths so far.
Scrub typhus, till now prevalent only in hilly regions and villages, is witnessing a sudden spurt in Delhi and jaipur.
Do not ignore an unexplained fever that continues for over a week. It could be the initial symptom of a rare disease caused by an insect bite.
